The
Foundation
for is a Canadian federally registered,
incorporated not for profit charity that is committed to bringing concrete and material
help to burned kids. Founded in 1997,
has fast become a major player in the
fight against burns to children. What does
" " stand for ?
The name " " came
from combining two children's names. "TO" comes from the name "Tommy",
the twelve old grandson of the Foundation's Secretary Treasurer and co-founding
Director, François Sourdif.
The "MA" part of " " is from
the name "Marie" who is the fourteen year-old goddaughter of Gilles Mercier,
President and co-founding Director.
In the past twelve months
has
reached over 150,000 people with its prevention, burn education and fundraising events,
tables, community activities, presentations and awareness sessions.
Dedicated to serving the varied needs of burned children,
works
in solidarity and complementarily with any organization helping burned kids. The
Foundation is bringing timely concrete and material help to children in the Provinces of
Ontario, Quebec and soon in New Brunswick by collaborating with CHEO (Children's Hospital
of Eastern Ontario) in Ottawa, Ste-Justine, Villa Medica and Montreal Children's
Hospitals in Montreal and
the Hamilton General Hospital, London Health Sciences Centre and
Branford Landsdowne Children's Centre.
Joint activities with various Fire Departments, including Fire Prevention events in
Ontario with the Burlington, Barrie, Brantford, Brockville, Kanata, Nepean, Ottawa,
Huntsville, Woodstock, Barrie and London Fire Departments/Services and in Quebec with the
Gatineau and Rimouski Fire Services as well as involvement in such activities as the
Kitchener-Waterloo and St. Thomas Musters with the Cambridge and Kitchener-Waterloo and
St. Thomas Fire Departments, Armed Forces Day at Camp Borden, the Erin Fire Department
Manufacturers Night, and Burlington FD Open House combined with community events
such as the Cambridge Fall Fair, Alliston Potato Festival through the courtesy of New
Tecumseh Fire Department allow
to
provide burned children with a variety of support such as ergo-therapeutic face masks,
therapeutic toys, pressure garments, silicone and gel pads, electronic equipment and
multi-media computers with free unlimited internet access aimed at breaking the
burned child's psychological barrier in and out of hospital.
As the Foundation for
continues
to actively expand across Canada it avidly seeks funding and timely donations from
individuals and corporate sponsors to pursue special events, elaborate its burned child
sponsoring program, work on fire prevention programs aimed at children, collaborate in the
distribution of fire and burn prevention literature through its in-house business
information and fund raising activities and other related projects.
