| BUSY MONTHS MAKE A BUSY YEAR
This past summer, in addition to its ongoing child burn
prevention and fire and safety education events at various corporate locations such as
Canadian Tire, Wal-Mart, Loblaws, Maxi, Sobeys and Zehrs throughout Ontario and Quebec,
the Foundation was present at several very popular community events such as the Ontario
Association of Fire Chiefs Convention in Mississauga, Alliston Potato
Festival, the Fire Fighters Association of Ontario, the Dundas Cactus Festival and
the Paris Fall Fair with several more events held in September, October and November
such as the Annual TOMA Ride for Burned Kids.
ALL IN A DAY'S WORK:
In addition to the regular daily execution of its burn education and prevention mandates
and its continuing major charitable efforts in bringing concrete and material help to
burned children, donors support and anonymous donation have allowed the Foundation to
complete several special charitable projects, namely:
Enabling Christopher P., fourteen year-old burn victim from Renfrew Ontario to attend
summer Burn Camp in Alberta and be close to friends. The TOMA Foundation partially paid
for his plane fare and made sure that he had an ample supply of TOMA T-shirts to wear
while at camp.
An anonymous donor made several dozen CDs and cassettes of Disney popular classic tunes
available to the Foundation for distribution to burned kids and these were passed on to
the Plastie Clinic of Ste-Justine Hospital in Montreal, Children's Hospital of Eastern
Ontario (CHEO), Hamilton General Hospital's Children Burn Unit, London Health Sciences
Centre and Windsor General Hospital were dozens of burned children's
lives were enhanced
by these recordings .
The Foundation made available a special disbursement account at Ste.-Justine Hospital in
Montreal and London Health Sciences Cnetre so that moneys could be made readily available for various uses such as the needs
of the mother of a young burn patient transferred from a New Brunswick hospital so as to
insure her daily presence at the side of the ailing child.
Mike Scargall of Brantford, ON., a
burn survivor teen was the recipient of a Dell desktop computer
complete with printer and free unlimited Internet access time.
AND FAST FORWARD...
